Quick Translation

A Quick Translation is one where the translation is a simple format-to-format translation. It does not include any form of transformation of features or schema, beyond that which FME carries out automatically to meet the needs of the destination format - a Semantic Translation.


The following would count as Quick Translations:

  • The File>Translate option on the Universal Translator (using an FME standard mapping file, not a user-defined one).
  • A Workbench workspace that is executed as generated, without any further amendments.
  • A Gentrans translation.
  • The File>Save Data As option in the FME Universal Viewer.
