Climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge with FME
From fmepedia
FME 2010 can be a great helper if you like to show your friends or colleagues your latest adventure. This is what Dale did (with my help) after climbing Harbour Bridge in Sydney, Australia.
Now it is really easy to write an animated KML with KMLTourBuilder - all you need is to prepare a polyline that represents your tour.
Here is what we have done: 1) We found a SketchUp model of the bridge in the Google 3D Warehouse, added a polyline representing the tour to the model in SketchUp,
2) Passed this polyline through a KMLTourBuilder transformer in FME and saved results as a KML file:
3) Opened our KML in Google Earth:
Note that in this case we don't have to translate the model - Google Earth has a rich collection of buildings all around the world. Only our polyline is translated, this is why our output is so small (17 kb).
Check this video to see what we have got and download the workspace, source data, and the output. Feel free to use it to make your own tour, and share your results with us and other FME users.
